Our Governors
St. George’s is a mixed Catholic Academy for 11 to 18 year old students
Our last Ofsted Report (November 2014) judged the school as 'Outstanding' and other aspects of our life, work and a diary of events are given elsewhere in this website.
Although many of our entrants are Catholic, with the family practice of their Faith vouched for by their Parish Priest, we welcome others from all faiths who wish to share in a Christian education strengthened by the teachings of the Catholic Church. We draw them from a large number of feeder primary schools.
Although we are part of the national educational system and have to conform to its aims and requirements, we are, as a Catholic School, part of the family of schools, both primary and secondary, in the Archdiocese of Westminster. Our Governing Body, whose membership, listed elsewhere, is composed of a majority of Foundation Governors appointed by the Diocese, and also of Parent Governors, some elected from the Parents and some appointed by the Diocese. The Executive team is on the Board as are representatives of the staff. As far as possible we seek to have a range of expertise to watch over the strategic operation of the school in the best interest of the students, their parents or carers, the staff, the Diocese and the community at large of which we are a part.
None of the lay Governors is an education expert. Our role is not to interfere in the day to day running of the school but in conjunction with the headteacher regularly set its aims and targets within our overall mission of being inspired by Gospel values to learn, achieve and to excel.
How far we are successful is shown in the achievements of our students and their teachers.
