PSHE
If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.
Desmond Tutu
The PSHE curriculum is a spiral curriculum that considers a range of topics under three categories:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Living in the Wider World
- Relationships
The topics covered within the curriculum incorporate societal issues, highlighting the importance of British Values and Citizenship. The intention of the PSHE curriculum is to provide students with the ability to become self-reflective, resilient and responsible citizens in an ever-changing world. Students should understand how to uphold British Values, stay safe and flourish in the modern world. Through the comprehensive PSHE curriculum, students should develop a greater understanding of the consequences of their actions and take responsibility for them.
The curriculum for Relationships Education, Sex Education and Health Education (RSE) aims to support parents in educating their children about relationships sex and sexuality. The course covers the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up, having friendships and relationships, engaging in sexual activities and learning about human sexuality and sexual health. At St. George's we ensure to meet the dual demands of government expectations while ensuring that Relationship and Sex Education is taught within the context of our community's values including that of family life, marriage and stable relationships.
The lessons are planned by the PSHE team and delivered by form tutors. Relationship and Sex Education is delivered by a team of qualified NHS nurses (Key Stages 3 and 4) or by SASH 'Support and Advice on Sexual Health'provided by Westminster Council (Key Stage 5).
