As part of the transition programme, we were delighted to welcome 115 Year 6s to St. George’s during the first two weeks of the summer holidays (26th – 30th July and 2nd – 6th August 2021). The summer school was a fantastic opportunity for our new Year 7s to make new friends before the start of school in September.
All students who attended were able to participate in a variety of academic and enrichment activities. Central to the programme were catch-up sessions in English and Maths where students were supported to catch-up with some of the knowledge and understanding potentially missed during the school closures earlier in the year.
There were also a number of enrichment activities available in school and in the local area. Students were able to participate in a range of sporting and fitness activities as well as creative, problem solving and team building activities including t-shirt design and printing, engineering a rocket out of paper and card, and introductory business studies sessions for budding entrepreneurs. Off-site enrichment activities included a climbing wall experience, a kayaking taster session on Welsh Harp reservoir and a trip to ZSL London Zoo.
The cost for the summer school was £35,000.
The summer school provided all participants with the opportunity to meet other members of their year group and staff at St. George’s, supporting a smooth transition from primary to secondary school.
