St. George’s has an enthusiastic PTA (Parent Teacher Association) and all parents, carers and staff are automatically members.
The objective of the PTA is to: strengthen links between teachers, parents, students and the local community through social activities and raise funds for facilities not normally provided by the Local Authority.
The Association will:
- Foster more extended relationships between the staff, the parents and others associated with the school, and
- Engage in activities that support the school and advance the education of the pupils attending it.
The committee meets monthly to arrange events. Our events have included Christmas and summer fayres, international days, film nights for the students and a parent, teacher and student quiz. We are relatively new as an organisation but we hope to add more to the programme as we grow.
If you are interested in joining us we would love to hear from you. If you do not want to commit to monthly meetings we are always looking for people to help out at specific events.
We have big plans for further developing the work of the PTA here at St.George's, but we need the support of more parents.
As you may know the recent Christmas fayre raised over £3,000, a brilliant result. The funds raised not only enabled us to donate to a charity for the homeless - 'The Passage', we were also able to support our internal Duke of Edinburgh students.
We would like to continue to support our pupils in every way we can. In the coming year we aim to raise money to buy equipment for after school clubs as well as continue with current efforts.
For this, we need the support of parents. We would like you to be a part of what we are doing. We have organised a 'Cheese & Wine' evening on the 6th of February from 5:30 - 6:30 pm, where you will be able to meet with the current PTA members and also ask us any questions you may have.
PTA members have organised a coffee morning on the 8th of May 9.30-10.30am. All parents are invited.
