THE LITURGICAL LIFE OF THE SCHOOL: An OVERVIEW 2016- 17 

St George’s Catholic School follows the liturgical cycle of the Church’s Year. In 2016-17 Sunday Year A Weekdays Year 1. 

AUTUMN TERM:  

SEPTEMBER: MONTH OF THE HOLY CROSS: 

ACADEMIC YEAR MASSES FOR THE OPENING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. 

Morning Prayer at BREAK TIME IN THE SCHOOL CHAPEL- MONDAY- FRIDAY 11:10 AM THIS TAKES PLACE THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. 

Morning Prayer: Intentions JUSTICE AND PEACE, VICTIMS OF WAR, YOUNG PEOPLE PRISONERS AND THEIR FAMILIES. 

OCTOBER: MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY. 

Morning Prayer: Intentions as above, as well as school and personal intentions. 

NOVEMBER: MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS. 

Morning Prayer: Intentions for the Holy Souls especially for members of our school and their families. Those who have died in conflict and war. 

NOVEMBER 11th SCHOOL SERVICE AND ACT OF REMEMBRANCE- 2 MINUTE SILENCE AND LAYING OF WREATH OF POPPIES. 

DECEMBER: ADVENT/ CHRISTMAS. 

MORNING Prayer: intentions: MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES, EXPECTANT MOTHERS, OPEN-NESSTO THE WORD OF GOD.

DECEMBER 8th Philip Lawrence Memorial Service. 

SPRING TERM: 

JANUARY: MONTH OF THE HOLY NAME OF JESUS         

Morning Prayer: Intentions Peace on Earth, Christian Unity,The Sick,VIctims of Trafficking, The Unemployed. 

FEBRUARY:  LENT BEGINS 1st March ASH WEDNESDAY. 

Morning Prayer: Intentions: Women, The Needy and Hungry of the world, Penitents and Wanderers. 

Candidates for the Sacraments. 

MARCH: LENT: 

Morning Prayer: Intentions as above. 

ASH WEDNESDAY: SCHOOL SERVICE AND DISTRIBUTION OF ASHES THROUGH YEAR GROUPS. 

During the season of Lent there will be Services of Reconciliation for each year group and the opportunity for Confession. Priests from Quex  Road  will be available during each service. 

Lenten Class Services. Throughout the Season of Lent as arranged by the class R.E.teacher. 

MARCH/APRIL END OF TERM LITURGIES ON A CHOSEN LENTEN/EASTER THEME. 

SUMMER TERM

MAY: MONTH OF OUR BLESSED LADY. 

Morning Prayer: Intentions: Deeper understanding between Christians and Jews, Those who suffer persecution, oppression and Denial of Human Rights, Europe, Human Life, Seafarers. 

JUNE: MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART: 

Morning Prayer: as above. 

JULY: MONTH OF THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD. 

Morning Prayer: as above. 

END OF TERM LITURGIES: On a chosen Summer theme. 

IMPORTANT SCHOOL DATES: 

FEAST OF ST GEORGE - APRIL 24rd  for Mass Year 7 and 8.

NOVEMBER 11th - Service and act of Remembrance  Whole School Presence.

 

PHILIP LAWRENCE MEMORIAL SERVICE  - DECEMBER 8th 

Friendship garden: Year 7 and invited guests.
