KS3 Music

The Key Stage 3 Schemes of Work focus on practical music making and aim to engage and inspire all students to achieve their musical potential.

Students at St George’s RC School have two lessons of Music a week, on a termly rotation with Art and Drama. In Year 7 we focus on learning about the different elements of music including learning to read and write musical notation.  We explore a number of styles including classical music, programme music and Gamelan – music from Indonesia

In Year 8 the focus is on developing the skills learnt in Year 7 through the exploration of different music from around the world including reggae, African drumming and the Blues.

In Year 9 we continue to explore a variety of musical styles including musicals and popular music culminating in a unit of song writing and recording in preparation for GCSE.

Students are levelled at the end of each half term. It is expected that all students will make two sub-levels of progress a year in order to reach their target grade. The department tracks progress closely using a mixture of written and practical activities to celebrate the improvements students are making.

Homework is set in every Key Stage 3 Music lesson and is designed to extend and consolidate learning in lessons. It is expected to be completed for the following lesson.
